Transforming Tuberculosis Testing in Africa: Lasec® and RAL Diagnostics' Partnership

Lasec^® has partnered with CellaVision/RAL Diagnostics, enhancing tuberculosis testing capabilities in Africa.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infection caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is a global burden, responsible for approximately 10 million infections and 1.4 million deaths in 2019 (WHO). TB occurs in every part of the world but predominantly impacts developing countries, where resources and infrastructure are limited. In South Africa, TB continues to be the single largest contributor to death.

In order to combat TB, accurate diagnosis and treatment are pertinent. The WHO recommends the use of rapid molecular diagnostic tests as the initial diagnostic test in persons with signs and symptoms of TB.

Supplied by Lasec^®, CellaVision/RAL Diagnostics has various products for the detection of TB.

Quick TB Kits, a variation of the classic Ziehl-Neelsen, allow for the detection of mycobacteria or acid-fast bacilli via a cold and fast staining technique.

In addition to the Quick TB Kits, RAL Diagnostics has additional products relevant to tuberculosis testing:

1. RAL TB Prep™ Kit for sample digestion and decontamination.

2. RAL Stainer Fluo-RAL Methylene Blue Kit for their automated RAL Stainer.
