The WaterLab Water Activity Meter represents the latest advancements in water activity measurement (aW), serving as a crucial tool for quality control of products and ingredients across various industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and herbal sectors. It's the ultimate solution when assessing the shelf life of a product, especially when determining the risk of microbial development over time. Unlike many other instruments that gauge related or secondary parameters, the WaterLab features a dew point sensor, ensuring that it measures real water activity (aW) directly. Additionally, its innovative methods of determination enable operators to optimise analysis times, even when dealing with samples that exhibit a wide range of water activity concentrations.

Dew Point Sensor

Using dew point technology, water activity (aW) is determined when thermal equilibrium is reached between the liquid water phase in the sample and the water vapor phase in the headspace. This is achieved by measuring the mirror temperature at the moment of dew point formation. In compliance with ISO 18787:2017 regulations, the sensor is renowned for its accuracy, speed, and reliability. WaterLab features a sensor block with a front opening, facilitating easy sample placement and cleaning. Additionally, it is equipped with a fan to ensure homogenous conditions and features a highly sealed chamber to prevent environmental interference. The combination of a dew point sensor with a 7" touch-screen graphic display allows for analysis speed and accuracy, as well as user-friendly operations and streamlined data flow.

Features and Benefits

  • Fast and precise analyses - The WaterLab is the only water activity analyser that is equipped with a dew point sensor and integrated with a colour touch-screen graphic display. Using a dew point sensor ensures maximum sensitivity and analytical selectivity in about 5 minutes.
  • Single or multi-point calibration - The instrument can be calibrated using different standards simultaneously or with one standard at a time. This multi-point calibration allows for real adjustment of the calibration curve.
  • Accurate control of sample temperature - WaterLab allows for the thermostating of samples in the range of 15 to 50°C. Users can set the temperature as desired or program it automatically for accurate shelf life studies.
  • The most accurate, sensitive and fastest sensor - WaterLab is the best performing aW instrument, primarily due to its dew point sensor. This sensor measures the real free water activity (aW) and not other interfering and unwanted substances, with an accuracy of ± 0.003 aW.
  • Touch-screen display - WaterLab features a state-of-the-art graphic touch screen display with Wi-Fi and USB compatibility. This ensures a simple and intuitive workflow, facilitating automatic data saving and immediate recognition of both the sample and the operator. Additionally, it offers the capability to communicate with external PCs and printers.
