MRS3500 is an ultra-thin, semi-automatic motorised rotary microtome
The HistoLine MRS3500 model microtome is a semi-motorised rotary device that is particularly well-suited for slicing paraffin sections. It is designed for standard histological applications, as well as for more intricate cuts required in research settings. If needed, the microtome can operate in both manual and semi-automatic modes. The body of the microtome is coated in a specialised plastic material that is resistant to solvents. This design feature eliminates sharp edges, thereby minimising risks to operators.
Safety And Operator Comfort
The flywheel comes with an ergonomic handle, designed for effortless cutting. The rotation blocker for the flywheel is easily operable and can be adjusted to accommodate any arm position for the sample holder. Additionally, it features a mechanical safety catch situated beneath the flying shear. The top section of the microtome boasts a spacious work area, covered with a sheath slide. This provides a convenient support surface for essential cutting accessories, such as a pack of disposable blades and a brush for collecting slices.
The orientation of the samples can be executed simply and precisely; when the red lights are visible, the guidance plan is in the zero position. The steel clamp comes equipped with a quick-change "clamping" device for both the sample and its fixed-tilt holder. This clamp is compatible with all standard types of biocassettes and can be easily interchanged by the operator with the optional biocassette ring clamp. The sample holder arm features a mechanism that allows for precise and rapid orientation along the x and y axes. Additionally, through the housing port disc, the clamp can accommodate super mega cassettes, which come equipped with a dovetail for easy insertion.
Reliability and Precision of the Cut
The MRS3500 microtome offers the capability to adjust both cutting thickness and roughing parameters. Its holder is universally compatible with disposable blades and includes a tilting protection feature. Additionally, the knife holder allows for lateral translation, enabling the use of the entire blade edge without requiring its removal. The knife holder can be positioned in three different locations—left, right, or center—to correspond with the length of a standard biocassette. This feature enables the utilisation of all types of microtome knives without the need to loosen the lock. The microtome delivers high-precision cuts for a variety of section types, including those embedded in paraffin or resin. It is ideal for both routine activities and advanced laboratory research, capable of producing slices between 0.25 microns and 100 microns. This is achieved through the use of stepper motors and roller bearings that are both play-free and low-maintenance. Additionally, the microtome is engineered to perform cuts with extremely fine increments, ranging from 0.25 microns to 2 microns.
The display, situated on the operator's left side, provides essential information about key operational parameters. These include:
This control interface remains user-friendly even when the operator is wearing protective gloves and is easily cleanable. The microtome's structure is exceptionally stable, featuring a powerful motor specifically designed for executing particularly hard cuts. A tray is strategically positioned at the work area's front to collect scrap sections, including those under the blade. This feature is ergonomically designed for the operator's convenience and can be detached from the instrument for effortless cleaning. The tray securely locks in place thanks to precise interlocking mechanisms between the tray itself and the microtome's front structure.
